Subject: Re: RAL Tier A Offline due to power failure
To add some futher information:
1/
a/ The RAL AFS cell (rl.ac.uk) is offline.
b/ All batch and front end services are offline.
c/ The RAL home file system is offline.
2/ The power failure appears to have taken out two of the three machine
rooms and the building aircon late evening Tuesday 28th. By early
Wednesday the remaining systems powered off due to the lack of aircon
though at this stage it isn't clear whether this was an emergency
shutdown or a programmed controlled shutdown.
3/ The nature of the power shutdowns means that we have to understand
what state the power systems are in before we start turning on power
which may delay the startup.
4/ It may be possible to get the AFS cell online before Tuesday but
since it is one of the systems that experienced an uncontrolled
shutdown we don'tknow what state it is in and restoration of service
could take some time.
5/ Restoration of all other services will being sometime Tuesday 4 Jan.
Martin.
