Today (8. December) is the feast day of:
The Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. This doctrine was
proclaimed as Roman Catholic dogma by Pope Pius IX in 1854.
Eucharius (3rd cent.) The first bishop of Trier. Later legend made
him one of Jesus' original 72 disciples.
Romaric (d. 653) Romaric was a Frankish noble who became a monk at
Luxeuil. In 620 he and St. Amatus founded a monastery on R's estate,
later named Remiremont. R succeeded Amatus as abbot in 623, ruling
for 30 years.
Gunthildis (d. c. 748) Gunthildis was an English nun who went to
Francia at Boniface's request to become an abbess in Thuringia.
Jane of Cacere (d. 1383) Jane (Juana?) was a Cistercian nun at the
convent of St. Benedict of Castro in western Spain and in time became
abbess. Marauding soldiers broke into the convent and killed J.
before the altar.
