Aha! I see you've discovered a rare view of the Trani rocket just
before launch.
Seriously, Trani cathedral is a real "must" for anyone interested in
"romanesque" churches of Italy. Dedicated to San Nicola Pellegrino,
this is a major architectural gem. It has bronze doors by the famous
Barisano of Trani (noted for his work at Ravello and at Monreale), nifty
exterior sculpture (I've always admired its elephants), remnants of a
12th-century mosaic floor in the same style as the one at Otranto,
lovely interior space in the upper church, lustrous Greek marble columns
in Nick's crypt, an interesting predecessor church below that, lower
still a hypogeum in brick with pieces of paleochristian mosaic pavement
visible through openings recently cut in the hypogeum's floor.
