Hi Helen
I'm puzzled as to why you would want to reduce the loan period.
Couldn't this be seen as reducing the quality/convenience of the service
to customers in the pursuit of issue figures.
If you look at what's happening in the private sector - the new net
based DVD lending services that are set to sink high street DVD hire
outlets including public libraries? - you'll see they make not having a
return date a selling point. The customer returns the stuff at their
convenience and can't borrow more stuff until items have been returned.
We need to keep putting the customer at the centre of what we do.

Has your authority reduced its loan period? And what was the result,
particularly on issue figures? We have a four week loan period and
we're thinking of reducing it to three, but it's not clear if the impact
is positive enough to justify the change.
Apologies if this has already been covered in previous discussions but
I've had a good look through the archives.
