Dear Colleagues,
I'd like to bring your attention to the following session to be held at the 2005 EGU Conference in Vienna:
The Deformation Field of the Indo-Eurasia Collision
Session TS27. Convenors: Dickson Cunningham, Michael Edwards
The Indo-Eurasia collision has had a profound effect on the geology, geophysics, physiography, and climate of Earth's largest continent. This session will focus on the active tectonics of the entire deformation field from the immediate collision zone to deforming intraplate regions in the distant continental interior. Contributions are invited from geologists and geophysicists working in Central Asia who are investigating processes of collision-related continental deformation, controls on the distribution and kinematics of deformation, the spatial and temporal progression of intraplate deformation, slip partitioning and rates of deformation, the role of the lower crust and mantle in influencing upper crustal deformation, the regional importance of fault reactivation, the causes of Tertiary/Quaternary volcanism in Central Asia, and analogue and numerical modelling of the deformation field.
