* Practical Statistics for Medical Research *
11 - 14 April 2005
The R&D Medical statistics Unit, UCLH Trust in collaboration with the
Department of Statistical Science, UCL and the MRC Clinical Trials Unit
is offering this short course. This is an intensive course suitable for
those actively involved in medical research who wish to understand the
principles of medical statistics and gain experience of applying
appropriate methods of analysis. The course is structured into 4 teaching
sessions per day, each consisting of a lecture followed by a practical.
Each participant has access to a computer for practical work. A textbook,
full set of lecture notes and solutions to practicals are supplied.
Numbers are strictly limited on a first-come first-served basis.

Types of data: their presentation and analysis
First steps in statistical analysis
Estimation and hypothesis testing
Continuous data: two samples (t-tests and non-parametric tests)
Presentation of Statistics in medical journals
Correlation and linear regression
Further regression topics (multiple regression, confounding, interaction
etc.)
Analysis of categorical data
Logistic regression
Analysis of survival data
Developing and validating risk prediction models
Analysis of clustered data (e.g. repeated measurements)
Meta-analysis and systematic reviews
