Fitchell (fidchell/fithcheall) is not another name for
chess, but an entirely different game.
The two prevalent theories are:
1. that it is one of the tafl family of games
2. that it is a variant of the Roman game ludus
latrunculorum
Both types have been described as similar to chess,
though in reality the differences are probably more
noticeable.
Cheers
