medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Martin Howley
Thanks for bringing up one of the 'other' Paterns.
Paternus of Vannes do I not, however, include among 'obscure local saints', although he mainly figures in sources from Brittany.
He is not connected to any liturgy in Normandy and has other feast days.
The Paternus commemorated in missals from Paris on 23 Sep. was the bishop
of Avranches, something I not fully realised before Phyllis brought him up
two days ago.
Patern of Vannes is familiar to me from an interesting calendar
for Vannes use, in a fine book of hours in Copenhagen
