medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Someone has 2 volumes of our copy of Guillelmi Duranti rationale
divinorum officiorum, ed. A. Davril et al. (Brepols, 1995-2000). The
discussion of Dedication of a Church is in volume 1 (Bk. I c. 6). In
vol. 3, pp. 127-130 [Bk. 7 c. 48] the following chapter can be found:
De festo et officio dedicationis ecclesie. The text inclines mention of
the burial of faithful Christians "iuxta ecclesiam."
Tom Izbicki
ps None of the mentions of cemetaries in the legal texts I consulted
suggests a cemetary detached from the church.
