medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Similar texts can be found in canon law. See, in Gratian's Decretum, De consecratione D. 1 cc. 19-24 (Friedberg ed. Corpus Iuris Canonici, vol. 1, col. 1299-1300), esp. c. 19 attributed to Pope Hyginus. Also, in the Gregorian Decretals, De consecratione ecclesiae vel altaris (X 3.40), esp. cc. 1, 4, 6 9 & 10. These texts sometimes distinguish the reconciliation or even the exorcism of a church with salt for reasons like the moving of walls (Hyginus).

medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
William of Fécamp seems to have asked himself this questions. The
answers he go were not always clear, but in the end Ivo of Chartres
advised him that full consecration rite was necessary after all
construction works that involved the moving of the altar.
