medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Call for Papers: Medieval Uses of Jewish Apocryphal Literature (Kalamazoo, May
2005)
This session is designed as a forum for discussing medieval receptions and
uses of
Jewish apocryphal literature (i.e., Esther, Judith, Tobit, I-II Maccabees,
Ecclesiasticus,
etc.). Its goal is to offer an opportunity for discussing the place of Jewish
apocryphal texts
in exegesis, hermeneutical interpretations, and literary or artistic
adaptations. Papers
exploring either medieval Christian or Jewish reflections on such works and
how these
interpretations reflect a shared but contested heritage are welcome.
Submissions may be submitted by post or electronically by September 15, 2004
