> The aim of this book is to study festivals celebrated in Eastern Baltic towns (in the region called Livonia) from c. 1350 until 1550. The book will provide a comprehensive analysis of local customs set in the wider comparative context of festival culture of medieval Europe. This will be a major new study on festivals celebrated in medieval northern Europe.

According to several who were present at her session, Anu Ma"nd's paper
"Beaver Tails and Roasted Herring Heads: Fast and Feast in Medieval
Livonia" was an entertainingly informative high point of this summer's
International Medieval Congress at Leeds. So this may be the book on
Baltic history to buy this year, if you are buying only one.
Best,
John Dillon
