Dear Salvador,
You might find some relevant continental material in Linda Seidel, Songs of Glory,
The Romanesque Facades of Aquitaine (Chicago, 1981). She certainly deals with
the "holy rider" theme, but I'm not sure that these riders can be directly identified
with Christ. On the "holy rider" theme in Byzantine art, see Gary Vikan, "Art,
Medicine and Magic in Early Byzantium," Dumbarton Oaks Papers, vol. 38, and
idem, "Two Byzantine Amuletic Armbands and the Group to which they belong,"
Journal of the Walters Art Gallery, 49/50 (1991-92), 35-39. I don't have references
to hand, but there are mounted images of King David in earlier Scottish art, as well.
Cheers,
Jim Bugslag
