medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but according to my edition of the
Vulgate (Clementine, 1956), the Gallican Psalm version (modified Vetus Latina) has
... in manibus dominae suae (not eius as below), and the Iuxta Hebr. has
... ad manus (not manum) dominae suae; ita (not sic)
This, of course, solves nothing except to make the BA material conform even more
closely to known texts. My take on it is that the BA citation simply notes that "in
manibus" equates to (means) "ad manus" -- presumably both readings were familiar to
potential readers (or a later copyist wanted to clarify the textual situation).
