medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear listmembers,
Once again I call on your collective expertise regarding the late medieval
devotion known as the "Twelve Golden Fridays" associated with Pope Clement.
We have reference to a Gaelic noblewoman's devotion to these from a
manuscript collection of pious material, which she commissioned in 1513,
but know comparatively little about the exercise of the devotion in late
medieval Ireland. There also seems to be a (variant?) known as the "Twelve
Golden Black Fridays". I would appreciate any information on manifestations
of this devotion across the European continent in the late medieval period
and, of course, would be very interested in anything written on same.
Once again, I thank all of you in advance (and in anticipation),
Dr Salvador Ryan, Department of Modern History, National University of
Ireland, Maynooth.
