Dear Lis-maps,
Do you need geological data or hydrographic data?
Are you a member of a UK academic institution?
If the answer is yes to both these questions, please read on....
----------------------------------------
Firstly, apologies to those for whom the answer to either of the above
questions is no, and to those who have already received the following
information from another source. We are aiming to reach as many people as
possible!
The JISC (www.jisc.ac.uk) are currently undertaking a consultation to
establish the demand for geological and hydrospatial data within the UK
academic community. JISC are negotiating with the British Geological
Society (BGS) and the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO) regarding the provision
of data from these organisations. The intention is to provide access to
these data through the EDINA Digimap service (http://edina.ac.uk/digimap).
If you have an interest in either of these data types, please complete the
consultation documents on the websites below. The first URL gives
information about the data, the second URL is a link to the online
evaluation form (since these are quite hard to find in the information pages).
BGS Consultation document for geological data:
Information: http://www.jisc.ac.uk/coll_digmapgb_cons.html
Online form: http://www.jisc.ac.uk/index.cfm?name=form&formid=3402373361
UKHO Consultation document for hydrospatial data:
Information: http://www.jisc.ac.uk/coll_ukho_cons.html
Online form: http://www.jisc.ac.uk/index.cfm?name=form&formid=3401702064
Needless to say, the greater the response to these consultation documents,
the greater the likelihood that the data will become available. Please feel
free to pass this message on to anyone you think may have a particular
interest in these data.
Kind regards,
Emma Sutton
