medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Well, if she is using the term "general session" in
the way that the MI at WMU does, she has until Oct. 15
to get her abstract in. I take that she is proposing
a paper for a general session, not proposing a
session.
They do not take Email submissions. Nor do they take
faxes (at least officially.) Faxes are welcome, but
eventually must be backed up by snail mail hard copy.
The reasons for this are simple: as for email, they do
not have the personpower to have someone spend the
better part of a week or more staff time to do nothing
but download email attachments, print them out (which
gets into the cost factor of paper and toner),
organize them, and such. Similarly for fax
submissions. Easier for the people there to have us
pay for our submissions rather than they, and if we've
done our organizing correctly all they have to do is
an alpha-sort on the special and sponsored sessions.
The only thing to organize then are the general
sessions. Considering there are 4 principle people
who put on a conference with 600 sessions, a few
hundred receptions, over a 4 day period annually in
the midst of running an academic department, an
academic press, teaching courses, etc. is pretty
amazing.
So back to your friend. She has a month yet, she can
download the forms from
www.wmich.edu/medieval/congress/forms, fill out said
forms, mail said forms, and wait.
