Hello all (and apologies again to joint subscribers)

Some little time ago I posted the message below asking for recommended
suppliers of PC security cages. I have very roughly collated the responses I
had (removing names of respondents and their authorities) at the foot of
this message. Sorry the formatting isn't great but companies recommended
were

Dalen/Top-Tec
Emend
BossUK
Nexus
Demco

- see below for URLs

I also received calls/literature from cpsecurity systems (www.cpss.com) as
well as Dalen and Boss.

I know this has been raised on the Peoples Network list before but the
archives
were not particularly revealing. I am looking to buy some enclosures for
some PC
base units (standard Dell desktop units) for a library we are opening that
will
have some ICT equipment in an area that will have less direct staff
supervision
than is usually the case. Our usual security measures of steel cable and
padlock
will not, in my view, be a sufficient safeguard in this environment. We did
buy a
number of these cages from a company called Metallico 5 or 6 years ago but I
am
struggling to find anything on the web about them now. I have found a small
number
of alternate suppliers but their cages tend not to have a lockable front
panel
(the purpose of which is to prevent access to the drives).
Can anyone recommend a supplier they have used (with web details if
possible) for
this type of equipment? I am happy to collate responses for the list.

In ****** we used Dalen initially but switched to a company called C&P
Security

systems (Tel :0161 477 5807) because they supplied and fitted within the
same

price as Dalen quoted without the fitting (with 955 units that is a
substantial

saving). Additionally, Dalen only delivered to specified points within our
5

divisions and thus we had to distribute to the other libraries from there.

However Dalen have a greater off the shelf range but C&P have tailored a
number of

units for us.

Robert,

We have used Dalen for all our security boxes and have been very pleased
with

them.
The standard boxes allow access to the drives and on/off switch, but we also
use

'total enclosure' boxes for our OPACS which prevent users from inserting any
discs

into the pc.
We've also just bought brackets which bolt our flat screen monitors to
desks.
All in all I think they provide a first class service and we will be
continuing to

use them in the future. We have only had one break-in in the last two years,
and

the one computer that was stolen was in a security box that wasn't locked!

Hope this helps - get back to me if you need to know anything else.

Hi Robert,

We've used Dalen who make a variety of enclosures that will allow access or
not.

There url is www.top-tec.co.uk <http://www.top-tec.co.uk> .

Just to confirm that in ******* we used Dalen and they were the best on
price and of very good quality. Made to measure - we just sent 1 x pc down
for them to measure. Fitted by Dalen, bolted to the floor. Some makes were
far more expensive.

In ********* we use Boss UK- www.bossuk.com.

Hi Robert,

We use a company called Nexus Computers, which is really a bloke called
Peter Radcliffe:

His work's been extremely good, reasonably priced and he's prepared to do
custom work if you've got something out of the ordinary (like our
ill-starred thin clients). He's also extremely practical and flexible, which
is very useful when you're working in a service that doesn't believe in
planning anything and can't do anything unless it's a crisis.

Robert,

A company we used way back then was Dalen ( www.top-tec.co.uk

<http://www.top-tec.co.uk>), based in the West Midlands. Our account manager
was a

lady called Lesley, but I've forgotten her surname I'm afraid. At the time
they

certainly made cages to fit the current range of Dell PCs.

Robert,

I see you've already had a reply from Dalen. We used them for all our PN

workstations - security cage sized to fit our PCs and integrated into desk.

Altogether pretty secure, but without the appearance of Fort Knox. Not the

cheapest solution on the marketplace, but we're very pleased with the
result.

Regards

Robert - I see you have already had a reply from Dalen. We have bought their
adjustable security cages and have been pleased with them - they do need a
joiner to fit them properly though. We also bought desks from Dalen that had
inbuilt entrapment cages in them for tower units - these were a very neat
solution though it means that it is more difficult than usual to get to the
back of the base unit. Dalen as a company are very obliging and if you buy
more than 5 units will deliver for free

Hope this helps

Hello

In the past we have use cages supplied by Dalen Ltd and their latest
catalogue does include a 'totally enclosed' model with removable front.

They can be contacted at :

Dalen Ltd

Robert,

We don't use metal cages but I seem to recall a company called Dalen
contacted me during our PN rollout. I have an old brochure here from that
time that has various physical security systems such as cables and metal
cages/units.

Their website is www.top-tec.co.uk which still appears to be functioning so
I assume they are still trading. As I said though we don't use metal cages
and so I can't vouch for how good they are, but their website seems to offer
a varied range. Certainly worth a look.

HTH.

Regards,

Hi Robert,

Here we use the same as you a steel cable and padlock, but we might in some
point

be getting some pc's from Flexiserv.
The pc's sit in a rack some ware safe and there is just a small box that
sits on

the desk instead of a pc, it uses the cat5 caballing but cant go
into a switch. Don't know if this is of any use to you

Thanks

Hi Robert,
Dalen Ltd have supplied a large number of your colleagues
for

their PN rollouts with security enclosures and security desks including
Cumbria

Libraries and Salford Libraries to name but a few, we have the largest range
of

computer security products in Europe. Our web site details are
www.top-tec.co.uk

<http://www.top-tec.co.uk/> Cages range in price from £85.00 at retail and
we have

a range of fully adjustable devices that can be reused with upgrades. The
products

shown on the website can be painted gun metal grey to blend in with the Dell
PC's

themselves. I hope this helps and if you need any further details then
please

don't hesitate to contact me.

If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me.

Kind Regards

We use a company called Dalen they can be found at
http://www.top-tec.co.uk/

We've used them for a number of years for firstly staff PC's - adjustable
cages and latterly for PN PC's, floor cages and desks. Perhaps I shouldn't
tempt fate, but we haven't lost a PC yet.

Our contact is Tony McFadyen Tel: 0121 783 3838

Dear Robert,
We used adjustable metal cages from top tec and have
been

happy with them. Illustrations on their web site at
  www.top-tec.co.uk <http://www.top-tec.co.uk>

Best wishes,

Done a quick search of the net and found these - not sure if they are any
good

though?

Robert,

Demco supplied me with a lockable cage for an installation project here. 'm
not

sure who the supplier was but try their customer services or projects team
(Peter

Vass or Steve Machaeson)

Hi Robert,

we used Nexus Computers to build security cases for our DELL's (both Tower
GX and

slimline USFF ? series). Cost abour £120 - £150 each. Have lockable front
doors

and lockable side panels that can be removed for access. Also slots at back
and

front for access to power/cabling/usb ports.

Contact is;

Peter Radcliffe
Nexus Computers
tel 0106 882778
fax 01706 290369
Mob 07785 280369

I think Peter works on his own so can customise as per your requirements.
We used Metallico but they no longer make them (I think).

Also try TOP-Tec - www.top-tec.co.uk <http://www.top-tec.co.uk>

Have had some other stuff from them - they seemed a bit more expensive and
have a

range of sizes, but seemed a bit less flexible for customised sizes. You may
be OK

with standard Dell desktops.

Hello Robert,

Since some of computers were stolen, we have got enclosures for both our
base

units and monitors (as they are flat screen and rather nice!). The company
we use

is TopTec: <http://www.top-tec.co.uk/>. They have proved very reliable, and
will

act quickly if required

Robert,

You might want to look at www.top-tec.co.uk <http://www.top-tec.co.uk/> ,
The

contact name I had was Dave Howson, from the days when Peoples Network was
first

conceived.

We looked at the idea of security cages, but like you decided to use steel
cables

and padlocks. So far we have not had any problems.

Hi Robert

We use a company called Emend who have a number of cages, but are also
happy to build bespoke. Service is excellent, and the products are of the
highest quality.

We have used other suppliers in the past, but none have been able to
delivery the same standard as Emend.

Hope this helps
