medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Call For Papers: International Medieval Congress, Kalamazoo
2005
The International Grosseteste Society is sponsoring two
sessions at Kalamazoo 2005:
1. Natural Philosophy, 1150-1250. We welcome abstracts for
papers which address the institutional, cultural, textual,
philosophical and/or theological dimensions of the study of
the natural world in scholastic thought. This period of
history witnessed tremendous changes in how natural
philosophy was taught in the schools, as well as in the
expansion of textual resources. Papers may address the
writings or
methodologies of an individual or a group of scholars, or
may examine a pertinent theme in medieval natural
philosophy. Analyses of the role of Arabic and Jewish
learning are also welcome.
2. The Writings of Robert Grosseteste in Context.
Grosseteste's corpus crosses into so many disciplines,
including philosophy, history of science, theology,
Anglo-norman literature, institutional history, linguistic
and translation studies, and canon law and
pastoral care. We welcome abstracts of papers which address
one or more of Grosseteste's writings in their relevant
context.
Details of Grosseteste's life and works can be found at
