How about the exaggerated behavior of Radechis, count of Conza (Sico's co-conspirator in the murder of Grimoald III), when he later petitions for admittance as a monk at Montecassino? That's a public show of shame as well as remorse that goes way beyond expectations and (though Erchempert doesn't say this in so many words) is clearly related to the enormity of his crimes.
