i'm hardly taking jung as a dogmatist. on the contrary, his willingness to
improvise, change his mind, explore where others were far too timid, are
some of the most attractive aspects of his work. but as rich and
compelling his work is, it was part and parcel of what had him seduced by
the most repugnant political religion the world has yet produced. so in
addition to being a person from whom we can learn a lot from reading him
and thinking as he does about psychic problems throughout history, he also
shd stand as a cautionary tale about the self-deceptions of certain kinds
of intellectual megalomania. does platonism have a tendency to produce
intellectual megalomanics? everyone can have their own answer to
that. but it's a good question to ask.
