medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
As a way of finding some information I would recommend Jeffrey Hamburger's The
Visual and the Visionary, chapter 8 -- "On the Little Bed of Jesus" --
Pictoral Piety and
Monastic Reform. It deals with late medieval German nuns, but the background
information in the footnotes is very thorough and should be of some use.
