medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Dear Frank:
thanks to the collective wisdom of this list, I have by now learned that the
bows my article is concerned with are properly called and described as:
a self-bow (made of one wholesome piece of wood),
a composite bow (made of two layers: wood on the outside and sinews on the
inside),
and a compound, or Saracen, bow (three-layered: wood in the middle, sinews
on the inside, and horn plates on the outside)
Many thanks so much to everyone who shared their knowledge with me!
With best wishes,
Elena Lemeneva
