Hi all,
This is just to thank you for your help and to summarise what I received in
the way of help. I have replied individually to those who requested more info.
Firstly, for those who wanted to know more about my research. I am in the 2nd
year of my Phd. I am undertaking this at the University of Warwick (UK) in
the Dept of Health and Social Studies/politics and international studies. I am
researching the issues around disabled women's participation in the political
process; asking why some disabled women take part in the political process
while others do not, what barriers these women face, how they over -come these
barriers and how society can aid/encourage more disabled women to become active
in the political process. At the moment I am interviewing women who are
active within, UK politics, whether; in formal politics, e. g national government;
or in informal politics, e.g. the disability rights movement.
Now to what the list members advised concerning authors writing about
disabled women's lives and Disabled women and feminism.
Several suggest that I look at the two special vols. of Hypatia on disabled
women.
They suggest I look for the following texts and authors;
Smith, B. G and Hutchison, B (eds) Gendering Disability. New Brunswick,
Rutgers University Press.
"The Emory University of Atlanta Georgia has a feminism and legal theory
project run by Martha Fineman that just held a conference on feminism and legal
theory and disability; it has a set of articles available for $25.00. If you
contact Martha Fineman You should find it and be able to purchase it. (A. Asch)
