Dear Richard,
I just read an article that is "not quite" medieval, but which works with the concepts
of honour and shame in a way that you might find useful: Ena Campbell, "The Virgin
of Guadalupe and the Female Self-Image: A Mexican Case History," in James J.
Preston, ed., Mother Worship: Theme and Variations (Chapel Hill, 1982), pp. 5-24.
In her bibliography, she includes J.G. Peristiany, ed., Honour and Shame: The
Values of Mediterranean Society (Chicago, 1966), which I have not read but which
might be useful, as well.
Cheers,
Jim Bugslag
