Hello, Julie,
We've tested Qualrus on very large video files. It uses the Windows media
player so anything Windows can handle, Qualrus can handle. Qualrus can also
handle as many files as Windows can handle. We tried to make Qualrus
"industrial-grade." Essentially, it has no limits in the number of source
files, the number of codes, the number of segments to code, size of files,
etc.
You can test this for yourself by downloading the free viewer from
www.qualrus.com It will do everything except save your work, so you can see
how well it looks and feels working with your interviews.
If you have any questions, of course, send us email or give us a call.
Good luck with your project,
Ed Brent

Subject: handling large video files in multimedia packages
> We are considering swapping from QSR N6 to ATLAS-TI (or some other
> package that handles multimedia data) for analysing our video-recorded
> interviews. Up till now we have analysed the transcript only but realise
> that we could gain a lot by coding the video data directly. However, our
> interviews are anything from 1 to 3 hours long and we don't know whether
> it would be feasible to handle this quantity of data with Atlas-ti or
> other packages. We have between 40 and 50 interviews in each project.

> Is anybody out there analysing this type of quantity of data with these

> many can you get on a disk and how does the software cope with accessing

> Any advice would be welcomed, even if it's to say 'don't do it!'.
