medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
This has been a fascinating discussion which I have saved up to read more
carefully when the worst of the marking is over! Meanwhile - do learned
members know that ALL the versions of the English Book of Common Prayer are
available online at
http://justus.anglican.org/resources/bcp/bcp.htm#England, plus lots of
other translations eg the 1560 BCP in Latin, and the 1662 Welsh Llyfr
Gweddi Gyffredin (but not the earlier Welsh versions).
From which we see that the composite words of administration are indeed
from the 1559 - I think most of us assume it was Elizabeth very sensibly
trying to have it both ways as far as possible.
(Totally off the point - as a vegetarian I must admit I was glad to see the
back of the old Prayer of Humble Access.)
