medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I am sorry, but Abelard was by no means better, at least inhis wild
days. During an audience of king PhilipI of France, he offended a Jew
with harsh words:
"Ideoque in synagogas vestras nunquam fulmina cadunt, quia nec
incloacas unquam ea cecidisse vel vidit quispiam vel audivit #8230; "
For the whole anecdote, reported by Gerald of Wales (Latin/German),see:

Gerald of Wales, indeed! Is there any authority for this anecdote other
than that lying git?
Bill.
