Here are the results of a quick dekko at the statistics for issues to
children at our computerised libraries:
1999/2000 158,488
2000/2001 161,540
2001/2002 198,711
2002/2003 197,153
2003/2004 181,508
March 2001 is when we increased the limit from four to eight. In 1999/2000,
issues to children accounted for 15% of the total at these libraries, in
2003/4 it was 17%.
Obviously, there may be other factors floating about that I haven't
accounted for.
I'll leave it to others closer to the coal face than myself to come up with
any practical implications.
Hope this helps,
Steven

Subject: Effect of increasing loan limit
Dear 'Listers'
a colleague has asked me about the effects of increasing the number of items
a child or young person can borrow.
A first glance, it would seem obvious - but has anyone any (pref. fairly
recent) evidence/observations
to offer
about the implications of raising the loan limit ?
Thanks,
Andrew Sandeman
