DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT

Applications are invited for positions of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in
the Department of Management.

The Department of Management provides courses for the Bachelor of Commerce
(BCom), Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) (BCom(Hons)), Postgraduate Diploma
in Commerce (PGDipCom), Master of Business (MBus), Master of Commerce
(MCom) and PhD.  It also has a heavy involvement in the Master of Business
Administration (MBA) degrees.   The Department teaches researches and
publishes at undergraduate and postgraduate level, in the following areas:

Human Resource Management, Human Resource Development, Operations
Management, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Relations, Management
Communication, Strategy and Business Policy, International Management,
Organisational Behaviour, Organisational Theory, Ethics and General
Management

The department wishes to further develop its research profile and become
the top management research department in New Zealand.

Applications for appointment as Lecturer or Senior Lecturer are welcome
from persons prepared to engage in researching, teaching, and supervising
students in one or more of the areas above.  Preference will be given to
candidates with more than one area of interest.

Applications for appointment as a Lecturer will have a PhD, a record of
publication which will ensure they are research active and a demonstrated
ability to teach and supervise postgraduate student research.

Applications for appointment as a Senior Lecturer should have a PhD
together with a strong record of publication in academic journals,
excellent teaching credentials and demonstrated ability to facilitate the
completion of PhDs.

 2.  The Department of Management
The Department of Management has 3500 student enrolments, providing courses
for the Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Commerce (Honours), Postgraduate
Diploma in Commerce, Master of Business, Master of Commerce and Master of
Business Administration degrees.  Staff are expected to be able to teach at
all undergraduate levels and supervise dissertations and theses at Masters
and Doctoral level.

3.  Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible to the Head of Department,
Associate Professor Graham Elkin and will be required to contribute to the
teaching and examining of undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in
Management, establish a research profile and contribute to the collegial
like of the department.

Although teaching levels are low by international standards, appointees
would be expected to contribute to 100 level teaching and take full
responsibility for all lecturing and the co-ordination of tutorials, for
the equivalent of two (6 point) 200 or 300 level papers and contribute to
400 level papers.

The successful candidate will be expected to engage actively in his/her own
research and to supervise that of research students.


4.  Salary
The salary range for a Lecturer is $50,132 - $61,830 per annum (pro rata)
and for a Senior Lecturer is $65,172 - $76,312 per annum, according to
qualifications and experience. Exceptionally well-qualified candidates may
be considered for appointment to a higher level.

5.  Date of Appointment
Applicant(s) are asked to indicate the date they would expect to be
available to take up the appointment. It is anticipated that staff would
begin their work with the Department in time for the 2nd semester (July 04)
or 1st semester (February 05).

7. Offer of the Position
Should the University wish to offer you the position, a formal, written
letter of offer will follow any verbal discussions that might be held with
you.  It is recommended that you do not resign from your current employment
until you have received our written offer.  The contents of this formal
letter of offer and its attachments will constitute the entire agreement
between the employee and the employer, and will supersede all previous
representations, negotiations, commitments and communications, either
written or oral between the parties.  Any agreements will only be binding
on the employer where they have been formally offered by the Human
Resources Division and accepted by the employee.
