UNDERSTANDING AND USING LEARNING STYLES TO MEET CUSTOMER NEEDS
Date: Wednesday 9th June 2004

Venue: North East Surrey College of Technology, Ewell
This one-day workshop offers a professional and personal development
opportunity. The aim of the workshop is to enhance your awareness and
understanding of different learning styles and how they impact on dealings
with customers and colleagues.
The workshop, run by Liz Parr, will be participative and practical. It
will include a variety of individual and small group activities,
self-assessment questionnaires, problem solving exercises and case
studies. Throughout, we will seek to link the theory of learning styles to
practical, every day workplace situations.
All those working or interested in Library & Information work in Surrey
and the surrounding areas are very welcome to attend the workshop. It is
aimed at those who want to update their awareness as well as those who are
new to learning styles.
Workshop scope and content:
Session 1: Standing back for a moment ? how do we learn?
· Honey and Mumford's Learning Styles Questionnaire
· Kolb's Learning Cycle
· Myers Briggs Type Indicator
· Comfort ? Stretch ? Panic zones ? where is learning best served?
Session 2: So what does all of this mean for me as an information
provider/facilitator of other people's learning?
· Practical applications when dealing with customers and colleagues
· How to assess and respond to different learning needs and situations
· Strategies to help you use your own learning style preferences
positively
· Strategies to help you recognise other people's learning style
preferences and how to respond positively to them
Session 3: What am I going to do as a result of today ? how am I going to
apply my knowledge and understanding of learning styles?
· Individual action planning
Timings:
The workshop will begin at 10.30 a.m. (with registration and refreshments
available from 10.00). Lunch will be taken between 1.00 and 2.00 p.m. The
workshop will close at 4.00 p.m.
Cost:
The cost of the workshop is £30 per delegate (£25 unwaged). This inclusive
cost will include coffee/tea, a buffet lunch and the Honey & Mumford
learning styles questionnaire.
Cheques should be made payable to Surrey Library & Information Group.
Cancellations received after 2nd June will incur full payment.

Learning Resources Centre, North East Surrey College of Technology,
Reigate Road, Ewell, Surrey
Car parking is available in the students' car park and the College is five
minutes walk from Ewell East Station. A location map will be sent to all
delegates prior to the workshop.
