David,
At first I strongly suspected that Al had failed to update all the
recently modified files to the tar balls, in particular I tried to track
down the linking change. The pongo_link_adam file was not present after
a build, so I looked at the makefile. What I didn't do before today,
and should have done (obvious thinking about it on the way to work after
finally getting a decent nights' sleep), is to probe further for the
pongo_link_adam file. It's in the pongo_source.tar. Sure enough it's
old.

A misdirection was that the device number was now correct, so presumably
that was the linking resolved. However, as nobody had come forward
explaining why the numbers were at odds, I consider that merely
relinking without changing to native PGPLOT might correct the device
number problem.

This is the version number in the latest makefile. Al updated
/classic after his modifications. That's where I obtained the source
to build it for RH 7.3 for Paul.
I've modified the source again and rebuilt it, and I'm just about to
test it. If all's well I'll update /classic too.

2.0-2, but I'm tempted to change it to 2.1, as this is more than a minor
change in practice.
Thanks David,
Malcolm
