‘Spreading the Net’ is the theme of this year’s annual conference of the
Librarians’ Christian Fellowship, which will look at the Internet,
electronic publishing and e-librarianship, as seen from a Christian
perspective.
The speakers are David Pullinger, author of Information Technology and
Cyberspace, and David Casey, Project Manager for Childnet International.
David Pullinger has entitled his address Responsible actors in the changing
world of libraries. Many key decisions appear to be taken by ‘others’ – by
those with power. How are we are to be responsible actors in history when
others appear to do the deciding? There are ethical approaches we can
adopt even in the technological worlds of print and digital information.
David Casey will be asking the question Why should the devil have all the
technology? David will be speaking on the Internet. His themes will
include dealing with the practical issues that the technology presents,
recognising that as Christians we have a view on what we find, or the way
it is used. He will also give an insight into where the technology is going
and how we need to prepare for the future as Christians.
