Subject: glocalization
Having used the term "glocalization" (with Keith Hampton) a lot to
describe the intertwinign of local and long-distance connectivity, I was
amused to see the term showing up in a different way:
The Third Glocalization Conference is being held in Rome, May 14-17.
It "will bring youth from around the world to address the most pressing
world issues and to debate solutions."
Uri Savir, President of the Glocal Forum says, "Our goal is build a net of
cities co-operating in the development of their citizens' everyday
life.... Thinking glocal, we;ve already experienced that Israeli and
Palestinians can cooperate to build their common future and we'll go
further on this way."
Notables nvovle include: Oprah Winfrey, Muhammed Ali, Angelina Joie, Alica
Keys, LL Cool J, Adrea Bocelli, Cirque du Soleil, Natalie Cole, Josh
Groban, Herbie Hancock, Youssou N'Dour & Lionel Ditchie -- they'll be in a
Quincy Jones "We are the Future" concert that will be broadcast on MTV.
Proceeds go to building 5 childhood centres in Kabul, Addis, Nablus,
Asmara, and Freetown.
There's also a conference of 50 mayors from around the world.
