That's kinda cool. Where it might break down is the numbers becoming very
large, if the XML and/or XSL change frequently. I don't know if this would
be a problem, but it might get unweildy.

I think that gets difficult when the XSL consists of several modular
stylesheets - the stylesheet "printing" number would have to be created from
an arbitrary number of xsl files. This should be possible, but I'm afraid it
would be rather fragile, I'll have to look into it.
