medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
The letters of Barsanuphius and John mentioned below form a collection of more than 800 directional responsa. There is a recent critical edition with French translation:
_Correspondance_ / Barsanuphe et Jean de Gaza; introduction, texte critique et notes par François Neyt, Paula de Angelis-Noah; traduction par L. Regnault. 5 vols. in 3.
(Paris: Editions du Cerf, 1997-2002; Sources chretiennes, nos. 426, 427, 450-451, 468).
Selections from the letters of B. and J. exist in English translation. See:
_Letters from the Desert_: A Selection of Questions and Responses / Barsanuphius and John; translation and introduction by John Chryssavgis.
(Crestwood, N.Y.: St. Vladimir's Seminary Press, 2003).
AND (clearly based on an older edition)
_Guidance towards Spiritual Life_ / Saints Barsanuphius and John; translated by Fr. Seraphim Rose (Platina, California: St. Herman of Alaska Brotherhood, 1990).
Best,
John Dillon
