medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
This might not be strictly medieval, but it came out of my discussion of
orthodoxy and heresy in my medieval survey class. One of my students
asked about re-baptism. She said she had heard of someone who had been
baptized, as an infant. The person had nearly died and received last
rites and then recovered. The person then had to be re-babtized. She
thought it was because she wouldn't be recognized?? Another person in
the class had also heard of this. I know that there was/is a rite for
someone who might have been baptized, but it isn't clear, but
re-baptism?? Can anyone help me out with this? I've never heard of it.
