Before Martin Howley kindly tipped us off to the late date of the
name I downloaded the Gallica .pdf of the second February volume of
the Bollandist _Acta Sanctorum_ (1658) and found no Pamela nor anyone
with a name similar enough to be an obvious source of confusion. "P"
saints for the day are:
Posinnus, or Posinna (martyr, Carthage)
Pamphilus (martyr (last of a long list), Alexandria)
Plutinus (martyr)
The URL for the book is:
http://gallica.bnf.fr/scripts/ConsultationTout.exe?O=N006028
The complete list of saints for the day is on page 611 of the file
(p. 573 of the printed book). Just to warn anyone else tempted to
download the whole document, it's about 180MB.
Checking on the suggestion that it might have been a sly tribute to
Pamela Anderson (Lee), I found that her birthdate is July 1st, 1967.
