medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
What is this list for? Apart from being alerted to saints' lives, I see
many Masters students bleating for bibliography (as they should, and
I'll help if I can).
Oriens' return, in all innocence, seems to have started a controversy
which could become quite blistering. Why? Should this list deny us our
chat (which, in any case, is not the purpose of Oriens' e-mail)? I am
extremely bothered that the current list-ownership does not permit us to
digress into areas which, surely, are to do with medievalia (e.g. Mel
Gibson's 'Passion' -- texts of which abound for all of the medieval period).
I have seen the white-fingered corporate hand of death elsewhere --
previously, for example, under the Stalinists in what was the Czech
Republic. I do not relish seeing the same familiar controlling hand now
administered from Leicester.
Which leaves us with the gentle parish priest of Pickering, in
Yorkshire, who has asked a question. Have we an answer for him?
