medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I'd like to ask for your help with the question below that arrived in the
morning e-mail.
with thanks,
Susan Kerr
Susan, do you know what the literal translation of "latae sententiae"
is? I understand that two ways to be excommunicated are "latae" and
"ferendae sententiae," and take the latter to mean "of a sentence that
must be borne/brought." But as for "latae," I don't know what to think.
"Of a broad sentence? Of a sentence (already) borne/brought?"
Thanks,
Arlen
