Today (30. January) is the feast day of:
Sabina of Milan (d. 311) Sabina was a married woman who, during
Diocletian's persecution, visited martyrs in prison and buried their bodies
after they were killed. Legend says that she died while praying at the
tomb of Sts. Nabor and Felix.
Barses (d. c. 379) Barses was bishop of Edessa (now in Turkey). The Arian
emperor Valens exiled him to the desert between Egypt and Libya, where he
died.
Bathild (Balthild) (d. 680) Bathild was a Saxon, sold as a girl to an
official of the king of Neustria. She ended up marrying King Clovis II in
649. She served as regent from 656 until 664, founded the monasteries of
Corbie and Chelles, and became a nun at Chelles.
Adelelm of Burgos (d. 1097) Adelelm was born near Poitiers. At first he
was a fighting man, but met Robert of Chaise-Dieu and joined his monastery.
A. was sent to Burgos (Spain) in 1079, where he founded the monastery of
St. John with royal funding.
Gerard of Clairvaux (blessed) (d. 1138) One of Bernard of Clairvaux'
brothers, Gerard became a monk himself after he was wounded in battle. He
ended up as cellarer of Clairvaux.
