medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Probably the most widely known and easily available example of this
trafficking is Einhard's acquisition of the relics of Marcellinus and
Peter. Einhard's account of their translation and miracles has appeared
recently in Paul Edward Dutton, ed. and tr., Charlemagne's Coutier: The
Complete Einhard (Peterborough, Ont.: Broadview Press, 1998) and also in
Dutton's Carolingian Civilization: A Reader. Excerpts are available in
Mary-Ann Stouck, ed., Medieval Saints: A Reader and Thomas Head, Medieval
Hagiography: An Anthology. Both Stouck's and Head's collections include
other translated sources related to the cult of relics.
