medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Sorry for a late reaction on monks and animals, but I just stumbled on a quotation from a manuscript in a catalogue, turning the question around - the wild animal who apparently wanted to be a monk: (Copenhagen KB NKS 1834 Fol.)
Fabule de animalibus: Inc.: Lupus ex uno osse strangulabatur ... *Lupus semel uoluit esse monachus*...Si poluit ethyops mutare pellem suam. (fol.149v-150v, after a 'Collectio materiarum in usum predicatorum')
Where has this text been edited and is it well known? It could perhaps offer another perspective on Monks and animals.
Best
Erik
