MANAGING BUDGETS TO DELIVER OBJECTIVES
3 & 4 MARCH 2004, LONDON (TWO CONSECUTIVE DAYS)
This two-day workshop is designed to equip participants with the skills necessary to manage and control unit budgets to deliver service objectives, interpret financial information to assess year-end financial performance, with occasional help from accounting support staff.
BY THE END OF THE EVENT PARTICIPANTS WILL HAVE:
* a framework for operating within devolved cost centre management arrangements
* used techniques to forecast monthly income and expenditure streams to the year-end
* used budget printouts to interpret service performance against financial and
non- financial objectives
* learned how to take corrective action to bring budget performance into line with
targets, assessing the effect upon service delivery and non-financial objectives
* a framework for effective presentation of library service budget reports, interacting
financial and non-financial performance data
WHO SHOULD ATTEND?
Library and information staff who have managed all or part of their unit's budget (which may have been set by other people) for less than 6-9 months, or managers wanting reassurance or guidance about existing practices. Some budget allocation techniques will be covered.
WORKSHOP LEADER: Larraine Cooper
Having had a substantial career in banking which included developing training in both managerial and financial skills, Larraine set up her own consultancy in 1986. Since then she has regularly worked with staff in all areas of the library and information industry as well as senior and middle managers in the public and education sectors.
