Dear list members,
I was asked by Kaveh Madani, currently MSc student at Lund University,
to put his application for a PhD position (preferably in the area
of Sustainable Water Resources) on the Urban Drainage list.
Below you will find his application. Please, address any replies
directly to him (at kaveh.madani@[log in to unmask]).
Any more list members who would like to use the list as a means of
looking for positions or offering jobs? Also, anonymised offers
(with contact details known only to the list owners) could be made
through the list (remember, no agencies, no commercial activities on the
list). Contact the list owners for details.
Best regards
Manfred
Co-owner "urban-drainage" list
Dear Madam/Sir,
I am contacting you with regard to doctoral studies in the field of
Sustainable Water Resources under your guidance. I would like to express
my sincere interest in pursuing a PhD degree at your university. During
my undergraduate studies, I became the top undergraduate student of the
Department of Hydraulic Engineering, Faculty of Civil Engineering,
Tabriz University, Iran, for the year 2003 and am nearing the completion
of an International Masters Program in Water Resources, at the Water
Resources Engineering Department, Lund University, Sweden.
As a result of this course, I have improved my perception of the concept
of sustainability and have become acquainted with system dynamics
approach, system thinking, and system dynamics modeling. My master’s
thesis, on which I am currently working, is about watershed management
and sustainability. In particular, I am trying to utilize the system
dynamics approach towards achieving sustainable water resources in one
strategic Iranian river basin (Zayandeh-Rud) where the economic and
socio-political issues as well as the technical ones are operating as
the derivers of the system. This is being done under the co-supervision
of Professor Lars Bengtsson and Associate Professor Mats Svensson from
the Water Resources Program (WaterLU) and the Interdisciplinary Program
on Environment and Sustainability (LUMES) at Lund University,
respectively. My undergraduate degree, from the University of Tabriz in
Iran, is a Bachelor of Science with a major in hydraulic engineering.
I have a strong interest in interdisciplinary approaches to management
and planning problems related to water, natural resources, and the
environment. As a student I have pursued an interest in students’
scientific activities, for example involvement in student scientific
associations and organizations in Iran.
Until now, I have had the good fortune to experience the educational
systems in Iran and Sweden and I am really eager to further my
educational experience abroad, as such experiences can only enhance
one’s learning experience. I have always tried to improve my fluency in
English and have benefited from my time abroad. I believe my field of
interest, my theoretical oriented training and my broad-based
professional experience make me well qualified to pursue graduate
studies. I have eagerly tried to achieve top qualifications within my
field, and perseverance has ensured that I always reach my goals.
Based on my capabilities and knowledge, I am seeking to add new horizons
to my knowledge during my postgraduate studies. I would gratefully
appreciate if you could kindly consider the attached resume and let me
know if I may have the opportunity to contribute to your research
projects and continue my graduation under your supervision.
Thanking you in advance for your time and consideration and I look
forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely yours,
Kaveh Madani
