Dear All,
I have recently seen a number of patients with irritation of the plantar nerve
in the 1st interspace. I presume this is a traumatic neuroma which from memory
was first described by Joplin?. Interestingly three of the cases have been
cyclists with fairly rigid plantarflexed ist rays. I presume combining this
with there tight cycling shoe is irritating the nerve. I have treated all cases
fairly successfully with orthoses and corticosteroid injections.
I am about to perform a literature search but thought i would throw it in for
discussion anyway.
