Both Ranald Macdonald (Sheffiled Hallam) and Derek Ord (Hull) refer to the need
for staff development. " ... the massive staff development need that exists"
"The trick will be to educate all involved ..."
Without trying to reignite earlier discussions, I just wondered whether there
is much in the way of published research on staff attitudes to plagiarism and
cheating. Whilst there are a number of surveys and research articles that look
at these issues from a student's perspective, I haven't yet become aware of
anything that looks at how different academic staff conceptualise plagiarism.
There seems to be plenty of anecdotal evidence that staff approach this issue in
very different ways, but perhpas we also need to focus on how we ensure
consistency in approach from staff, particularly as the systems and procedures
described in various postings to the list imply that individual staff are being
giving greater responsibility in this area. (This is in no way a criticism of
such systems). Any pointers to research in this area would be most welcome.
Thanks,
Andy
