Dear Kari-Hans and Ken and others:
Since you have preparing this Icelandic saga I feel that I have to
participate. I was a little confused and preoccupied. Like any other
person that don't pays his parking tickets I started to think that your
concerns were partly due to my participation on some of the conflicts or,
even worse, if my post about football world championships was lowering the
level of the list. I could imagine you and Ken chewing bits of putrefied
shark nodding your heads looking at something called "The worst world
champion final ever".
I, therefore, went to a thing called: discussion room/help on the list
website. For my surprise, I was introduced to a chat-room where I felt
very lonely since I was the only one in. (there was this icon of a little
brown men alone on the right side that was supposed to be me). From there
I went to the "rules" of the list (which most of them my mother taught me
years ago except for quoting correctly). From this little digression I
came back with the same feeling that you have: This list has been working
very well.
This is working so well that, when we meet at Porto, I offered Ken the
possibility of IADE's Editorial department to make a proceeding's book on
the on-line conference. I think that this proposition is still valid for
other editing possibilities on the list production. I think that a book
(and I don't know if this suggestion is new) would help to crystallize
some of the best contributions to free expression on design research and
correlated fields on the web. We could even think of a collection: "Great
fights about Not Design, by Designers and Design Researchers"; "Feelings
is not a Burt Baccarat Issue, by Design Researchers all over the
World", "Power, Corruption and Lies, Peer Reviewing outside the World of
Design, with a travelling guide for the conferenciest cities of the
world". Sorry, this was mere non-sense rhetoric, I really feel that hard
back edition on the list production would de useful for the list as for
the outside world.
For the rest, I agree with you.
I'm also concerned about what the other 1150 subscribers think.
Besides all discussions and "conflicts" all requests for help on research,
have received useful answers, and some came to be great themes for
discussion.
As I stated previously on my post "Major Ted to Ground Control", this list
has been my oracle, for the last three years. Since I've started to post
regularly to the list three months ago, imagine what I have profited with
so little contributions of my own.
Best,
Eduardo
PS. Ken, I humbly accept the top-hat offer, but I want one that is stained
with mud and all messed up from your previous games.
