with interest. (The thread Re: Shifting into the comfort zone ?).
Perhaps I will offer a few thoughts in a while.
I writing here to differ gently on one issue.
Original ideas do not form a duality opposed to referencing. In
some cases, references support original ideas. Some original ideas
REQUIRE referencing.
Not all original ideas require references. Even so, there are cases
in which focusing on original ideas DOES involve references.
References involve more than form. When required, references
are more than formal devices. References are functional when
original ideas that take the form of communicable research
to move a field forward. In those cases, references are functional.
I use references precisely because form follows function.
