Hi Rosan,
Methodologically speaking, you should not expect that the concept of
predesign will help you to understand the concept of design. Just the
opposite -- the concept of design should help you understand the concept of
predesign. Further more, a better approach is to look at predesign and
design from the standpoint of the artifact development process.
The word predesign is used very often in the achitectural circles in the
U.S.A. It is used to indicate phases like feasibility study, master
planing, and programming, as well as only programming. I already mentioned
that the terminology in this area is still not institutionalized formally,
but there is some agreement among professionals and academics.
